Summary

As currently structured, the Congressional Budget Office projects in 2052 the US social security administration will deplete its trust fund and only have currently dedicated funds to pay 78% of currently promised benefits./1/

Background

In response to this predicted depletion, solutions have been proposed which include privatization, reduced benefit levels, and increased taxation. Privatization was considered but rejected by the 109th congress.
