Summary

The U.S. should reduce dependence on foreign-controlled energy sources.

Background

Those concerned about the issue of Energy Security feel America's political power is overly dependent on foreign-controlled energy sources.
Approaches to this issue can generally be characterized as demand side or supply side solutions.

Demand

* Conservation
* Energy Taxes

Supply

* Development of Alternative Energy Sources (Ethanol, Wind, etc)
* Expanding Nuclear Power
* Alaska Drilling

The last major piece of consolidated Energy Security legislation was the Energy Security Act of 1980, passed during the Carter administration. The Bush administration has indicated that improvement of US Energy Security will be a policy priority of the administration in 2007./1/
