The restoration of Human Rights provisions stricken by the previous bill is obviously essential. The current situation is an embarrassment for the country that has, for years, harangued the rest of the world as if it were the scion of Human Rights.

Summary

This bill back tracks on the removal of Habeas Corpus rights for detainees in U.S. custody included in the Military Commissions Act of 2006, and bars the use of torture by the U.S. Its official short title is the Restoring the Constitution Act of 2007.

Background

Habeas Corpus is the right of a prisoner to protest imprisonment before a court of law. The Military Commissions Act (MCA) of 2006 allowed the president to hold people indefinitely without due process.
