Summary

Requires each government agency to submit report to congress outlining their data-mining activites. Allows agencies to mark their submissions classified reports if neccessary.

Background

Warrantless analysis of public and private communications and data by US government agencies have led to privacy concerns among many Americans./1/

Political Context

While this bill has been filed unsucessfully in previous congressional sessions, the new chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee has stated he has an interest in increasing oversight of goverment datamining activity./2/
